Frequently Asked Questions
Why SHOULD I Purchase liability insurance?
For anyone in an advisory role, liability insurance is highly recommended. Not only does it protect the client incase something happens to them, it protects you and your business. With this in mind, we have made it easy and affordable to all professional members who are meeting with clients. We suggest at least the minimum $1M of Errors and Omissions insurance.
I would like to join HCA but I am not yet working with clients. Should I obtain coverage?
If you are not ready to meet with clients yet, you do not have to purchase liability insurance. We do however highly advise that if you have an active website, social media, blog, newletter etc., you may want to consider getting coverage right away. Just because you are not yet taking an income, in no way means you are not exposing yourself to risk if you have an online presence.
do i have to obtain my liability insurance through hca?
Great question! You do not have to purchase your liability insurance through HCA however if you do not get your coverage through us, you should ensure you are properly covered and that the insurance company fully understands what a Health Coach is and what services they provide. We found through our own research and negotiations, that many companies do not have a full understanding of the profession and a strong knowledge and understanding exactly what your role is, is extremely important to ensure you are covered if you need it.
I want to work while travelling. will i be covered for this?
The HCA plan alllows you top travel within your country of residence and still be covered.
You will not be covered while travelling to other countries under any plan you can find. Beware of plans whose wording claims they provide "International Coverage." This does not necessarily mean you can travel internationally. It typically means you can obtain coverage internationally based on your location.
There are several reasons for this:
If you are planning to travel outside of your country for work purposes (such as a speaking engagement), you would want to purchase an additional plan that covers you for the duration you are away.

This does not necessarily mean you can travel internationally. It typically means you can obtain coverage internationally based on your location.
There are several reasons for this:
- It is illegal to work and obtain an income in a country without taking the proper legal steps.
- You must be a citizen or permanent resident of that country for tax purposes to be covered by any insurance plan.
- Laws vary from country to country and what you are covered for in your country, may be illegal or outside of your scope of practice in another country therefore no insurance company is willing to take on that risk.
